2015 KPS, San Diego held

2015 Kyoto Prize Symposium

Kyoto Prize Symposium (KPS) is held each spring in San Diego, California, U.S.A. and features the latest Kyoto Prize laureates. The 2015 Symposium, which was the 14th, was hosted jointly by the Kyoto Symposium Organization and four San Diego-based universities (San Diego State University, University of California, San Diego, University of San Diego, and Point Loma Nazaren University), with the cooperation of the citizens of San Diego.
The symposium was held by the three laureates: Dr. Robert Samuel Langer, Dr. Edward Witten and Ms. Fukumi Shimura. About 1,700 people including local residents, neighborhood highschool and university students came to listen to the inspiring talks by the laureates in the three venues. After the address by President Kazuo Inamori and introduction of the laureates at the charity banquet (known as Gala) which preceded the laureates’ lectures in San Diego, scholarships ($10,000 per person) were presented to six high school seniors from San Diego and Tijuana, designed to encourage the students to go to universities.
