Development and Effectiveness of AI-Based Employment Placement Support for Persons with Mild Intellectual Disabilities in Medical Institutions
Keyword
Summary
This study develops and evaluates an AI-enabled job-retention support model to help individuals with intellectual developmental disorders sustain meaningful employment in healthcare settings. While disability employment initiatives often prioritize compliance with statutory employment quotas, they also have the potential to advance workplace diversity and workforce development. In the healthcare and welfare sector, persistent labor shortages underscore the need to expand employment opportunities alongside the wider implementation of reasonable accommodations and improvements in service quality; however, uptake remains constrained by infection-control requirements and related factors, and the one-year retention rate for workers with intellectual disabilities is 68%. To address these challenges, we will use AI to (i) visualize and decompose work tasks, (ii) match individual profiles with task requirements, and (iii) develop a training system that prepares workers for anticipated challenging situations.

Message

Through this study, we aim to identify the conditions and environmental factors that enable individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to transition from being recipients of support to providers of support through employment. We are committed to ensuring that our findings are disseminated to society and translated into practice.
