Analyzing Effects of China's Foreign Aid on Social Protection in the Middle East and North Africa: A Case Study of Egypt
Keyword
Summary
China has recently gained political and economic influence over countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). In conventional understandings about China's foreign aids, the Chinese government mainly focuses on economic development (e.g., the construction of high-speed railways and ports) and underestimates the importance of social development (e.g., poverty alleviation and healthcare). However, it began to emphasise grassroots development in developing countries, founding the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA). Moreover, it intends to increase its political powers through supplying vaccine and masks to MENA countries. My research aims to analyse the influence of Chinese foreign aids to social development in MENA countries. To achieve this purpose, it focuses on Egypt, one of the most geopolitically important countries in this region. It will analyse how Chinese foreign aids influence social protection and contribute to poverty alleviation and quality of medical facilities in the country.

Thank you very much for your support to my research project. I will do my best to produce meaningful results by connecting a concept of "social security" with that of "foreign aid."
