Plastic deformation mechanism of Ti-O alloy
Keyword
Summary
Oxygen is believed to cause high strength and embrittlement in Ti alloys. In contrast, we have recently reported that titanium alloys with excess solid solution of oxygen exhibit excellent ductility while maintaining high strength, but the mechanism of this phenomenon was unclear. We found that the high ductility can be explained by focusing on cracks introduced at grain boundaries. In this study, we clarify the relationship between cracks and deformation by in-situ observation of tensile deformation behavior.

Through my research, I will do my best to make titanium a more accessible material like steel and aluminum.
