Summary
Artificial nucleic acids, which have chemical structures different from those of natural nucleic acids, are expected to be applied to nucleic acid medicine and biotechnology. We have succeeded in determining the crystal structures of acyclic artificial nucleic acids, L-aTNA and SNA, and RNA, and obtained unexpected results that acyclic artificial nucleic acids and RNA form a parallel triple chain structure of C:G*G (Watson-Crick type base pairing, *Hugsten type base pairing) in an unconventional manner. In this study, we aim to develop a new method for RNA function regulation by unique triplexes of acyclic artificial nucleic acids.
