Research topics
Elucidating the biosynthesis mechanism of pectin, a functional bio-polymer for plant development.
Keyword
Summary
Plant cell wall is multi-functioning layer which is composed from polymers of simple sugars, polysaccharide. Pectin is known as a major component of cell wall polysaccharide and actively studied by many researchers for a long time. However, because pectin is the structurally most complexed, its biosynthetic mechanism remains a mystery. In this study, biochemical method will be applied to identify novel pectin-biosynthetic genes to shed new light on the understanding of plant cell wall.

Message

I am very grateful to have been selected for the Inamori Research Grant. The discovery of genes involved in pectin biosynthesis is a field that has only recently begun to sprout. I hope that this grant will help us to gain new knowledge and contribute to cell wall research.
