Genetic mechanisms of the flight-mode evolution in birds
Keyword
Summary
Birds have evolved with various modes of flight such as flapping, gliding, and hovering. This study focuses on the evolution of flight modes by examining genetic bases of interspecific variation in wing morphology. Specifically, forelimb-related genes are compared among species to investigate mechanisms determining wing bone length, which correlates with flight modes mainly via mechanical requirements.

Message

The goal of this study is to understand the evolution of avian flight modes by comprehensively exploring behavior, morphology, and gene.
